About this book

The line between protector and predator is a razor's edge, easily blurred in the rain-slicked shadows of Duskhaven. In a city where ambition and corruption bleed together, two souls on a collision course will discover that the greatest danger lies in the one place they should feel safe: with each other.

Emily Carson is a master of control. As a high-demand event planner, her world is a fortress of solved variables and flawless execution. She believes in one simple rule for survival: you are on your own. No one is coming. You save yourself. Her meticulously ordered life is her armor, but when she witnesses a crime the city’s elite wants buried, her self-reliance makes her the perfect target.

Detective Jack Reid sees the city not as a home, but as a grid of anomalies and threats to be neutralized. Obsessive and dangerously possessive, he hunts a ghost in the city’s data—a corrupt organization known as the Sovereign Circle. He believes protection is control, and he will go to any lengths to eliminate chaos and own every variable.

A single, anonymous 911 call makes Emily the one loose thread that could unravel everything Jack is fighting to expose. He finds her suppressed report and sees her not as a witness to be protected, but as a liability to be contained and a puzzle to be solved. He doesn’t offer help; he seizes control, breaking down her door and ripping her from her life with a chilling declaration: she is his to protect, which means she is his to own.

Forced into his brutal world, Emily must fight for her agency against the man who becomes her captor, her warden, and her only shield. But as the Circle closes in, they both learn that the only thing more dangerous than the enemy hunting them is the dark, all-consuming obsession that binds them together.

A dark romance featuring stalking, forced proximity, and intense power dynamics, Obsession in Blue contains explicit content and themes intended for a mature audience. While it is Book 2 in the Inescapable Obsessions Series, each novel features a different couple and can be read as a standalone. Author recommends reading in order for full enjoyment.

Reviews

I just finished Obsession in Blue and I’m still thinking about it. Jennifer Elizabeth created a story that pulls you in immediately and keeps the tension building all the way through. The pacing is fantastic, and the chapters flow in a way that makes it very hard to put the book down. The chemistry between the characters is powerful and full of intensity. Jack Reid is the perfect morally gray character—protective, possessive, and impossible to ignore. The dynamic between him and Emily keeps the emotional stakes high and adds a layer of danger that makes the story even more compelling. At nearly 300 pages, the book gives enough time for the tension and character development to really build, and the shorter chapters make it feel like a fast-paced page-turner. I found myself constantly saying “just one more chapter.” If you enjoy dark romance with strong emotions, complex characters, and a story that keeps you hooked, Obsession in Blue is definitely worth the read. Jennifer Elizabeth, thank you for writing such an intense and captivating story. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series.

What starts out for Jack as a simple assignment turns into an obsession very quickly. He consumes without apology. Emily pushes back against the change and letting go of the control she values when she is confronting with the choice between his safety or a society committed to silencing her. I love how Jack saw her in a different light at the end and valued the qualities of control, detail, and execution of a plan. I wish Jack would have shared more inner dialogue about how his obsession started and grew but loved that she came to see it at the end with his pride and acknowledgment!

This book is exactly what the title promises: obsession. Jack is the kind of character that immediately puts you on edge. He’s intense, watchful, and carries that dangerous energy where you’re never quite sure if you should be afraid of him or drawn to him. The tension he creates on the page is addictive. Emily pulls you right into the chaos of it. Through her eyes you feel the confusion, the curiosity, and the pull toward something she knows might be dangerous but can’t look away from. What really works here is the psychological tension between them. It’s not a sweet romance. It’s darker, sharper, and filled with moments that make you stop and think wait… what is he going to do next? Jack especially is fascinating because he doesn’t feel safe or predictable. That unpredictability is exactly what keeps the story gripping. Every interaction between them feels loaded with power, control, and obsession simmering under the surface. If you like dark romance with morally gray characters, psychological tension, and a relationship that borders on dangerous, this one definitely delivers. Jack and Emily’s dynamic is unsettling in the best possible way and that’s exactly why you can’t stop reading.
