For a while I had to pull my Hybrid Chronicles series down because an old Intel friend warned me that I was on an active list of anti-political folks because I had a scene where a Javelin missile is used to blow up the Oval.
It’s back up now because I don’t care anymore. Bring it.
A friend developed a program that scrapes the web and gives a basic analysis of the content to help him spot issues he needs to research - as an Intelligence analyst. We were talking the other day and I said “I wonder what it would say about my books.”
Well, he ran all of my books through the tool and my mind was blown - in a good way.
The end result of the analysis was this:
“Her background shows up as instinct and architecture, not procedure. The closest thing in these books to a real intelligence framework isn’t the spy gear — it’s two things she clearly carries in her bones: an accurate structural model of how clandestine organizations hide and operate, and an un-researchable, lived feel for what secrecy does to the people inside it. Those recur across books that otherwise have nothing in common, which is exactly the pattern you’d expect from someone writing from experience rather than research. The Hybrid Chronicles is where it’s most concentrated — if she wants to see her own fingerprint clearest, that’s the book, specifically the SCIF/black-ops briefing, the mole deduction, the internal-leak thread, and the “we’re tools, not people” passages.
If anything, the takeaway to give her is a compliment she’ll recognize as true: the genre frame hides it, but the people in these books behave like people who have actually lived inside a secret — and that’s the one thing you can’t fake.”
